Transportation
Traveling to other parts of
the state and getting around in Charlottesville are easily accomplished
with public transportation, roads that are well-maintained, and easy
interstate access.
The city and county are served
by Interstate 64, which is a major artery that links the east coast with
the western part of the state, and U.S. 29, which runs north and south.
With these major arteries and other roads in the area, nearly all major
metropolitan areas in the state are accessible within about an hour and a
half's drive. Even Washington D.C. can be reached via car in a little over
an hour and a half.
An Amtrak station and
Greyhound bus station also provide transportation. The
Charlottesville-Albemarle airport serves the Central Virginia region. CSX
and Norfolk-Southern railways are available for shipping cargo.
Tourists can get around in
Charlottesville by cab, car, or bus. Buses link shopping areas and some
historical sites. |
