Compu-Tune Up recently announced that it has just received federal 8-(a) certification to provide information technology services under federal contracts. In addition, Compu-Tune Up also has federal "SDB," or Small Disadvantaged Business, status since the firm’s owner Johnny Forbes is a first generation American, the son of Hispanic immigrants. With both 8-(a) and SDB status, Compu-Tune Up is among a very small group of businesses with both designations. Compu-Tune Up is the only IT company in Central Virginia with 8-(a) certification.
"This means our business will explode," says Forbes, who expects to expand throughout the region and add employees in a wide variety of positions over the next year. "A lot of credit for our certification belongs to Charlottesville’s Center for Innovative Technology office. Without CIT’s Greg McMullin, I might not have realized that I qualified for 8-(a) certification." For federal contracting, Compu-Tune Up will now be listed specifically as an IT Service Provider and a Value-Added Reseller.

Saveur magazine has named Feast! as one of its top 20 favorite cheese shops nationwide. The listing appears in the April 2005 issue. This issue celebrates cheese, and in particular, American artisanal cheeses. Pages 74-75 list Saveur editors’ favorite places to buy cheese, and offers helpful tips when seeking a good cheese shop and how to store cheeses once you bring them home. Feast is included in a listing where New York and California mostly dominate. With the exception of a shop in Atlanta, Feast is the only cheese shop mentioned south of New York City. The article was careful to avoid listing bigger specialty food markets, and, instead, focused on small cheese shops with an emphasis on selection, cheese knowledge and passion.
"To be in a directory that also lists Zingerman’s and Fairway Market is a real honor for Feast," remarks co-owner of Feast, Kate Collier. She adds, "We are proud to be included alongside the very shops that are longtime favorites of mine. These places inspired me to open Feast."
Eric Gertner, co-owner of Feast, adds, "We are a group of young people in our 20s and 30s with a real passion for food. We’re constantly learning and working to create an atmosphere that encourages our customers to linger, taste and ask questions. This has enabled Feast to become a real community with a neighborly spirit where people of all ages and backgrounds feel at home and come together in the interest of good food and company."
