Children, Youth & Family Services, Inc. (CYFS) has received a $10,000 grant from the Bama Works Fund of the Dave Mathews Band in support of its Play Partners Program, a unique literacy readiness program for preschool children in the Charlottesville/Albemarle region.
"The generosity of Bama Works has had a huge impact on our ability to promote the well-being of children for which we are very grateful. Since 1998, Bama Works has contributed over $32,000 to CYFS," said Dominic Felix, CYFS’s Executive Director. "At a small local nonprofit such as CYFS, every penny is stretched three ways, and we work to offer programs that are efficient and effective--Play Partners is an excellent example. Each week, over 90 young children in home day care settings are provided with enriched "play" experiences with the help of over 938 yearly volunteer hours and one part-time paid coordinator. "
The goal of Play Partners is to promote early literacy skills and increase the potential of successful entry into kindergarten by introducing preschool children and their parents to quality children’s literature.
